3 reasons why “Follow Friday” (#ff) on twitter is a waste of time

“Follow Friday” is a trend on twitter where people take the time to shout out some of their favorite twitter followers. This sounds like a great idea and at first it was. I’m always looking for new people to follow but now follow Friday is just an excuse to spam your news feed and annoy your followers. Here are the 3 reasons why “Follow Friday” (#ff) on twitter is a waste of time

3) People want new followers but don’t want to follow

This is a common problem I see on twitter, Some people tend to stop following others once they hit a certain number. This number depends on the person. Some people don’t follow more than 300 and others don’t follow more than a thousand. They mostly do it cause they do not want their news feed to be over filled. Why would those people follow new random people when they already follow hundreds of people?

2) We are already used to it.

When I first discovered Follow Friday it was a magical thing because I actually felt like I had twitter friends telling their followers about me. Its not like that any more. Some people (Like me) still do single shout outs where I give people a reason to follow a certain person but a lot of the follow Friday shout outs are automated. Theres a bunch of websites that let you give shout outs every single Friday without doing anything. Sounds a lot like spamming right? IT IS!!!

1) It has gotten to the point where it is “Spamy”

What is the meaning of “spam”? Spam is the use of electronic messaging systems to send unsolicited bulk messages indiscriminately. Sending out a bunch of automated #ff messages is considered spam. There is no other way to put it.

The bottom line.
Its about time that follow Friday is put to rest. You can give a shout out to your favaoite followers any time you want to but doing it in a massive bulk just creates an annoying experience for loyal twitter users so please cut it out already.

About Nelson

I was a nerd before being a nerd was cool. My parents was always busy with something so they kept me entertained with video games, TV, movies and magazines. I grew up on that and to this day I still love it. In high school I went though a stage were I tried to hide the things I liked to make new friends. It worked but I was disappointment in myself but then senior year I meet a guy named Rimmy. When I first saw him I thought that he was a total geek and a loser. I did not want to be seen with him cause I felt he would ruin my image. In photo class the teacher put us as partners and after talking with him for a while I realized that we had a lot in common. Long story short, Rimmy made me realize that it is ok to show what you like. The things that you love make you who you are and there is no shame in that. Thanks to Rimmy for giving me the idea for "My Nerd Blog". He moved to California and I lost contact with him but I hope he is doing well. My Nerd Blog is not about glorifying the nerd life style it is about showing what we love cause this is who we are, not who we want to be.
